What can you and your family expect from Tokoroa Central School?
A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT
We provide a positive school culture where respect and inclusiveness are a major focus for staff and students.
We want everyone who walks through the gate to be treated fairly and respectfully and have a sense of belonging to a learning community.
QUALITY TEACHING
Our major teaching focus is to ensure children achieve literacy and numeracy skills to a high level.
We work hard to provide teaching programmes that meet individual learning needs. Children with special learning needs (remedial or extension) will receive extra tuition whenever possible. Teachers are continually challenged to review their teaching practice and keep up with the latest research on the most effective ways of teaching and assessment.
A RANGE OF LEARNING EXPERIENCES
At Tokoroa Central School we provide a range of experiences that will set up the children for their future life and career. These experiences may include sport, healthy eating activities, outdoor education, enhancement programmes, cultural activities, gardening and environmental learning.
We draw on our school community to utilize strengths and interests that will give the children as many opportunities as possible and develop their independence and their confidence in trying new activities.
HIGH STANDARDS FOR BEHAVIOUR
At Tokoroa Central School we understand that both our learning and playground environments need to be safe for all students. We follow our CARE Programme and our teachers model and have high expectations for behaviour.
We follow a restorative approach when needed and children are taught about the importance of consequences for negative behaviour.
We have a number of rewards for children that follow and model the expected behavior within the school. Reward Days are held twice a term and there is a Principal’s lunch at the end of each term for the class that has the most points after collecting our CARE cards for good behaviour.
Our teachers are dedicated professionals who know their students well and aim to provide authentic, stimulating learning experiences for students which are based on their learning needs and interests.
